Today we hiked around the "Father" of all mountains. It was very cool to learn the history and making of this famous mountain. The faces are made from granite but as it gets further down to the bodies it becomes more brittle, so the sculptor did not dare finish the detail he intended for fear of the heads falling right off the mountain.

South Dakota is quite beautiful. The topography is varied. We are at the base of the mountain here.

The kids had a blast climbing rocks in Custer State Park. We also got to see a lot of wildlife: buffalo, antelope, deer and chipmunk.

Aren't they cute! They were right by the car.
In Custer State Park, you have to go through 3 very small tunnels to get through the loop. You can see this car coming through as we stand close to the Eye of the Needle.
Today was packed with so many things, we decided to stay here for an extra day!
Happy Pioneer Day to all of our Utah friends! If you see Marc Wisner, tell him Robyn & Doug wished him a Happy Pioneer day on our blog (little inside joke!).
