Our Boy is Growing Up

Blake got invited to his first "high school" party. Now, this presents a problem in our house, b/c we don't allow Blake to date until he's 16. Because this is a boy/girl party, this falls under that rule as well. However, he has kept his 3.5 average we require and he's done everything we've asked recently, so we told him that as long as parents were present, then he would be allowed to go. I remember being 14 and being invited to parties when I was a freshman. I really wanted to go too, but my parents wouldn't let me go very much either. Now that I look back on it, it was probably a very smart thing.

Now, he does like a girl that we really like. One thing we really like is that she can't date until she's 16 either. Not only can't she, she let Blake know that she wouldn't. Score 1 for her! She is smart, cute and she keeps Blake pretty much on his toes. When it's time for them to date, we hope she is still around b/c she would definitely be one of those we would approve of.

Now, high school is a scary place. There are so many things that could and can happen during these 4 years. If you're lucky, you escape high school without very many scars from stupid mistakes you think you are too indestructible to make. We really like his high school b/c it is small and intimate and we pretty much know most of the kids. However, what we don't like is the fact that our boy is growing up and there is nothing we can do about that.
