The kids wanted to visit another country on this trip, so we obliged and took them to Canada. We got up super early this morning to catch the ferry to Victoria.

Once we got to Victoria, we boarded a double decker bus and went to see the Butchart Gardens. The Butchart family moved to the country to start a cement plant. Jeni Butchart was very lonely and tired of everything looking so drab that she began planting flowers and plants in the old limestone quarry. The gardens just took off from there. To get people to come to the country, she started inviting people to visit her gardens. Below is the Sunken garden, her very first attempt planted in the old quarry.

Here are a few of the beautiful flowers that I just had to catch. I hope my friend Marcia likes these (she loves floral photography). Did I do ok?

Isn't this rose trellis amazing? After all the garden touring, we went downtown Victoria to experience B.C. days. It was so crazy, that we ended up souvenir shopping and then finding a park and taking a nap under a tree waiting for our ferry to board to return to the US. Tomorrow, we're off to Astoria!
