Our first stop on the Astoria tour was Fort Stevens. We toured the batteries and museum and learned that the Japanese actually fired shots on this fort in June 1942 without retaliation and without harming the fort. We also learned that this fort was actually used during the Civil War.

Blake is looking forward to driving. Can you tell?

A tour of Astoria wouldn't be complete without a stop at the Kindergarten Cop school.

We also stopped by the East Basin to see the sea lions. Aren't they cute? I think of the movie Andre!

After walking around the charming town of Astoria (where I finally found the new Stephanie Meyer's book), we then went out to see the jetty.

Then, of course, we had to go to the beach. Funny thing....no one was at the beach. We finally see the difference between the east coast & west coast. The west coast beaches are beautiful and unspoiled but bone chilling, toe freezing, heart stopping cold! Back east in August, the beaches are jammed packed with tourists and the water would be like bath water.

Definitely no need for a bathing suit!

Not all of the East has bath water for beaches. Maine's water can numb your foot in .03 seconds. Maybe NY or DE or VA on south gets toasty.
Love following your travels!
