Thanks to President Monson

In the Ensign this month, his message on Treasures or Eternal Value was a wonderful reminder for me. I especially liked the portion of the poem he quoted:

Around this corner I have a friend,
In this great city that has no end;
Yet days go by, and weeks rush on,
And before I know it, a year is gone.
And I never see my old friend's face,
For Life is a swift and terrible race....
But tomorrow comes--and tomorrow goes,
And the distance between us grows and grows.

Around the corner!--yet miles away....
"Here's a telegram, sir...."
"Jim died today."
And that's what we get, and deserve in the end:
Around the corner, a vanished friend.

I'm not sure about you, but Doug & I have had some wonderful friends over the years! I don't want to waste one more day in telling them how much they mean to us!

Jared, Doug's best friend since high school, is of course the top of Doug's list! He's having some health difficulties right now and we hope he's going to make a full recovery!
Doug's mission companions are right there at the top as too! These guys: Clark, Rocky, Tate, Lee, Collins, Kennedy among many others are some of the neatest guys on the planet!
President Brough is, of course, Doug's hero to the end! An incredible mission president and a fine example of what Doug would like to be when he grows up!

My list is a little longer:
Leah & Amy are my high school best friends! We had so much fun together. We had a little reunion this past summer at Amy's house. It was a blast to see these girls again! I was so grateful to realize that even now, I would choose to be their best friend all over again! I love you ladies!
Jeni, Alison, Shannon, Shauna, Taunya & Ginny were those college roommates that you just can't forget. I still keep in touch with these pals! Although it's mainly through Christmas cards, it still keeps us up on what is happening. We did do Easter dinner together a few years ago and it was fab! I love y'all! You made the college experience for me! I wouldn't have survived without you.
Kim, Staci, Taralee & ReNee are my Nursing School partners in crime. Blood, sweat and tears with these ladies. You have to love these ladies who can put up with you at 5 am and still like you when your shift is over! Literally these ladies helped me through nursing school when I thought I couldn't do one more thing!

We also have met some great couples that we have hung out with over the years.
In Hilton Head, it was Art & Nikki Smith, Jo & Kerry McCullough, and Harold & Kathi Thompson. Game nights and dinners on an island! Need we say more.
In Summerville, it was the Andersons', Stubbs', Reesers', Browns', Petersons' and more. This was one of our favorite places to live! Our ward was AWESOME! Many have moved out here closer to us now, so we get to still see them.
In Virginia, our neighbors were one in a million! The Garretts', Wheelers, Reilleys' and Wellers were fantastic. It was one big happy family in the cul-de-sac. We truly miss them! Our Ward family is again....truly amazing Rob & Julie (our second Ohana), Ralph & Sabine, Maurice & Alicia, Deweys, Phelps, Hullingers, and more! Our ward got so small in the end, it was one small, happy family!

Now in Utah, with living in 4 blocks with all that you go to church with is a whole new culture for us! We have some amazing friends, without which we would not be as happy as we are!
Wisners', Riss', McBees', Conlees', Andersons', Kings,' (who we spend lots of our time with), our cousin Chad & Lynette, our wonderful guardian angels Annie & Jimmy, and our great friends at The Charleston (Meg & Beth and staff).

Please don't be offended if your name is not on this list, because we plan to continue with President Monson's advice of not delaying our appreciation!

With love for a great week! Thanks for making our lives better!

I love that poem. I have been recently reconnecting with people I haven't talked to in awhile. People that once knew me better than most. It is sad how we let life get away from us but also fun to reconnect and learn about your friends all over again!! Thanks.
